Silicon Dioxide or Silica (scientifically SiO2) -is a nano ceramic coating-ceramic coating. Once cured it turns into a crystal clear shell onto the surface applied. It’s been compared to applying an ultra thin layer of glass over your vehicle’s surface as a shield of protection. Most ceramic coatings have an H (hardness) level, so what does that mean? It means 2 things, one it determines how much SiO2 which is the (active formula) used in that specific ceramic coating brand. Second, how it compares to the graphite hardness on  the “pencil scale” which determines scratch resistance. Even factory clear coats fall short at around 3H. Respectfully, most ceramic coatings are at least twice as durable as the factory clear on a vehicle. As technological innovation continues and durability stretches the margin ceramic coatings will possibly become the permanent form of vehicle protection.
